These are a few of my watercolors:

I love mustard flowers. They are so simple, yet there is something really cheerful about them. It's great to come across a meadow covered in them, in all different colors. When I was a kid I tried to eat the pods, which was a big mistake. They don't call these plants "mustard" for nothing. Mustard Flower
Fabaceae with plants On my way home I often passed fields of these plants in the Fabaceae family (these may be a type of vetch, perhaps?). The interesting thing was that if you looked under where the leaves met the stem, they had these shiny black dots. I couldn't figure out what they were for, until one day I saw ants gathering around the dots, drinking the nectar from them. I wonder if the dots secrete nectar to attract them. Ants can be pretty territorial, and may protect these plants against other insects or predators who might want to eat them.
These were beautiful bright scarlet flowers I passed in a field on the way to a job I once had in Folsom, CA. They were so pretty that one day I brought my water colors, and after work I sat down next to them and painted them. Red Onagraceae
